Bits and Pieces of Airline News

Kiwis will now be able to fly non-stop to the popular holiday destination of Bali with the launch of Air New Zealand’s new twice weekly service between Auckland and Denpasar Airport.  The Boeing 767-300 service will operate seasonally over the peak demand period of June to October, but has the potential to operate year round if there’s sufficient demand.

Meanwhile, Airbus 320 ZK-OJK’s arrival back in NZ from lease in Brazil has been delayed by up to two months.

Jetstar will end its three- times-a-week Brisbane-to- Christchurch flights from March 25 - services that date back to 2005 when the airline chose New Zealand as its first international destination.  A Jetstar spokesman said the cancellation of its three-times-weekly Christchurch-Brisbane service was regretted but reflected lower-than-expected passenger numbers. "Unfortunately this route has not performed as we would have liked," he said.

Virgin Australia's New Zealand operation has reduced its losses after ditching domestic services more than a year ago but is still struggling to make money on the trans-Tasman route.  In the face of stiff competition from Emirates, Qantas and Jetstar, Pacific Blue posted a loss of NZ$7.35 million for the year to June 30, compared with a $19.8m loss a year earlier, according to accounts just released.
